Operational Improvement for MT CAHs is a goal of the MT Flex Grant. Hospital operations include, but are not limited to, quality assessment and improvement activities, review of healthcare professional competencies and performance, conducting or arranging for medical review, auditing functions, et al, business management and general administrative activities. Montana State University Industrial Engineering& Management Systems (IEMS) program in collaboration with the Rural Hospital Flexibility Program selects two students to participate in a summer internship performing Lean Rapid Improvement Events in 7 Critical Access Hospitals across rural Montana. Over each two-week event, students work in conjunction with hospital staff to apply their knowledge of Lean principles and tools towards a pre-determined improvement project within each facility.
